TELETEKKERS DISPLAY SENIORITY OVER THE BOCA SéNIORS

TEKKERS GAIN INSPIRED WIN OVER LEAGUE LEADERS, BOCA SENIORS

Match Summary:

After an awful start to the season the TeleTekkers were staring down the barrel of a gun at 1:00pm yesterday afternoon. They faced top-of-the-league Boca Seniors, who's recent signing, Ian Hargreaves has proven to be a Blackfriars League star in the making.

Luford and da Silva also started for the Bocas; an intimidating line-up to contend with for the unchanged squad of TeleTekkers.

Before the game Tekkers Captain, Dwain Nicely prophesied, "Today we will get some numbers of the board. It's hard to ignore the goal difference between the two teams but we've done our research and we have fitness, youth and style on our side. Hargreaves will see none of the ball, I can assure you of that".

The game was hard fought in the first half, Reid being the noticeable pace-setter in the midfield and da Silva looking favorite to score first for the Boca's, Tekkers game plan worked perfectly as Hargreaves was man-marked out of the game; his frustrations were clearly apparent.

Saunders, Popat and Annand played well but looked out-skilled and out-paced in their opponents half. They did well to defend against a Tekkers team that looked at their peak but made little impact in their attacking play and were punished for their lack of creativity.

Reid scored a cracker to open up the scoring but it was quickly cancelled out by a superb strike from da Silva. Blaney, who was strong through out the game, smashed a second into the bottom right to keep Tekkers head's above water.

Lamb, who looked so confident last game, and is the best keeper thus far statistically, looked panicked as he parried shot-after-shot. Webb on the otherhand looked relaxed - barking out orders to his defensive line and ensuring they squeezed out Luford and Hargreaves at every opportunity.

The second half was not memorable but for John Blaney completing his brace for the game and burying the match for good as both sides defended superbly to prevent any more hemorrhaging of goals and, more importantly, pride.

A respectable score for the Tekkers, who've been shooting blanks in the first few games of the season. 3-1 the Tekkers at full-time. Gwatkin could not make a statement through his hysteric tears of elation and we could not catch up with Kemp for a post-match analysis as he was on his 5th lap of victory before we had to leave to miss the traffic.

Boca's captain, Luford had this to say on the game, "It was a poor show, especially as we started so strongly. We've had some fitness problems that were apparent after the first 5 minutes - we need to rectify this to progress. We have our next game on Friday so it won't play on the lads minds for too long, our goal difference is still exemplary and we are still strong favorites for the league despite this setback".
