The first game of the season is always a nervous affair. These two teams have one of the fiercest rivalries in the Premier League. Both teams have worked hard in the last moments of the transfer market to boost their squads for the new season.
Ken Martin captain of Adletico FX has had to deal with 3 of the regular squad out with injuries caused in pre-season warm-up. The new squad will have to work hard to gel as the start of the season can be a pre-cursor to the rest of the season.
Dwain Nicely captain of Teletekkers has put together a great new team – he has bolstered the defence with new signings such as Ranbir (Rambo) Sarai. The attack is as quick as ever with players such as James Reid, Bill C Kemp and John Blaney.
The game itself started well as Teletekkers started brightly – from the initial whistle you could tell this was a squad that worked for each other and were confident.
Within the first couple of minutes Teletekkers were 1-0 up through a dynamic strike from John Blaney and looking lively as the Adletico FX team took time to ease into the game and work as a team.
The game had many controversial incidents, as the teams battled for supremacy in the middle of the park. The main talking point was a disallowed goal that brings back the ongoing FIFA argument for the camera replay referee. Adletico FX’s new goal signing of Oniel Samuels showed his worth as the Teletekkers started to use youth and speed against the more seasoned Adletico squad.
By the end of the first half the Adletico FX experience and character shone through as Steve (Van Persie) Kerin and Ian Hargreaves started to use their skill and guile to break down the defence of the Teletekkers. Adletico FX held a 1.1.2.1 unit beautifully and went 4-1 up. Dominic Mesiti was sterling in the middle of the pitch, utilising his natural speed to terrorise the opponents defence, deservedly resulting in the Man of the match award.
The start of the second half was a different story as the ‘hairdryer’ treatment must have been shown by Vice-captain Sonny Webb (playing in goal) as the Teletekkers came out strong and focused – The score was back to 4-3 in a matter of minutes, with strikes from James (Modric) Reid and Billy C Kemp.
This fight back seemed to reinvigorate the Adletico team and they re-focused the defence, controlled by the ever strong Leon Joseph, and started a spearhead at the front which changed the match completely. The Adletico players created multiple chances and sliced through the Teletekkers defence with style and panache. Goals from Steve Kerin (3), Ian Hargreaves (2) and Dominic Mesiti (4). This led to the 9-3 end result.
The Adletico held firm, led by the newly appointed captain Ken Martin, under a last 5 minute barrage from Teletekkers as they tried to salvage a respectable score line – sadly to no avail.
The Adletico FX is a new squad but will be one to watch and have catapulted themselves to second in the table. All I can say is watch out for this team in the rest of the season...
